Ford sells two different diesel oils and they are not interchangeable. This one is SAE 10W-30, API CK-4, Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 — the Power Stroke® oil. Ford's other diesel oil is SAE 5W-30 FA-4, WSS-M2C214-B, and it is for the 3.0L Power Stroke in the F-150 and Police Responder only. FA-4 is a different category with a lower high-temperature viscosity target; it is not a substitute here, and this oil is not a substitute there.
Ford's crankcase capacity for the current 6.7L Power Stroke F-650 and F-750 is 17.0 quarts with the filter. Three jugs leave you two quarts short; four jugs cover it with three quarts spare.
This is genuine Motorcraft® SAE 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel Motor Oil, part number XO-10W30-5Q3SD. Ford's own description: it “meets Ford WSS-M2C171-F1, required for use in Power Stroke® Diesel engines.”
Four sealed 5-quart jugs — 20 quarts. On a 15-quart 2023-on F-250 to F-600 that is one change plus five quarts for top-off; on a 13-quart 2017–2022 truck, one change plus seven spare.
Straight from Ford's Motorcraft oil applications and crankcase capacities chart, Version 23 (US, 7/2026). Capacities include the filter change.
| Application | Capacity | Ford's oil |
| 6.7L DIT Diesel F-250–600 2017–2022 | 13.0 qt | SAE 10W-30 — this oil |
| 6.7L DIT Diesel F-250–600 (23–) / F-650–750 (17–23) | 15.0 qt | SAE 10W-30 — this oil |
| 6.7L DIT Diesel F-650–750 current | 17.0 qt — this lot | SAE 10W-30 — this oil |
| 3.2L Turbo Diesel Transit | 12.0 qt | SAE 5W-40 — not this oil |
| 3.0L Turbo Diesel F-150 / Police | 6.5 qt | SAE 5W-30 FA-4 — not this oil |
The two bottom rows are the ones people get wrong. A Transit 3.2L wants 5W-40 and the 3.0L F-150 wants FA-4 5W-30 — neither is this product. Check your owner's manual for the capacity and the specification, not just the engine size. If you are unsure, call us at (626) 378-7212 with the year, model and engine and we will check before you buy.
Ford does list this oil for the older Power Stroke engines, but with a temperature condition attached, and we would rather you hear it from us than find out later. Ford's wording, verbatim:
Read plainly: on a 6.7L, 10W-30 is Ford's oil at any ambient temperature above 0 °F. On a 7.3L, 6.0L or 6.4L, Ford brackets 10W-30 to a cool-weather band and points warmer climates at a heavier grade. If you run a 6.0L in Arizona in July, this is not the grade Ford puts you in.
Those three engines are commonly quoted at 15 quarts as well, so this lot covers them with spare. We are not going to pretend the temperature note does not exist just because the count matches.
Ford describes the formulation as using “premium hydroprocessed base oils and unique additive technology.” We quote that rather than labelling it, because Ford does not call this oil conventional, synthetic, or a blend anywhere in its own literature — retailers apply those words, not Ford.
The Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Volvo and Mack claims mean the same jug covers a lot of on-highway fleet equipment, not just Ford. If you are buying for a mixed fleet, that matters.

Motor oil is a regulated liquid, so we cannot ship to PO boxes, APO/FPO addresses, Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico by air. If your address is outside our standard ground service we will contact you before charging anything.
Ford sells this oil in 5-quart jugs. Truck capacities are 13, 15 and 17 quarts, so we make up the lot instead of leaving you to work it out at the counter.
